DESCRIPTION
Rotoscoping is an animation technique it's where animators trace over the footage, frame by frame, to use in films. Originally, recorded footage film images were projected onto a frosted glass and re-drawn on by an animator. This equipment is called a rotoscope, the the rotoscope was replaced by computers. In the film industry, rotoscoping means manually creating a matte for an element on raw footage so it can then be re placed onto the back ground.
HISTORY
This tequince was invented by Mac fleischer. In 1918 - 1929, Fleischer produced three short films to test out his invention. These were called 'Out of the Inkwell'. He then used the technique to create cartoons like Betty Boop, Gullivers Travels and The Superman cartoons. Rotoscoping was used a lot until computers that were capable of producing the exact same result but in quicker and easier ways.
